OPERATIONS July, 2004 - It's about time I filled in some of the details of planned operations for the CB&Q in Wyoming. Below is a list of industries and their locations on the railroad. Clicking on the town name will take you to a page that displays the industries at that location, the commodities / products shipped and received, and where they go or from where they're received. This is a first crack at traffic planning on the layout, and industries are still in flux. There will be changes. With time, I'll develop a train schedule to meet the traffic demands of the towns and industries. This page is still under construction. Only the underlined towns have links right now.
Other comments: While I was at the Great Scale Model Train Show in Timonium, MD (which was in some ways disappointing but in most was what I expected) on April 7th, 2001, I stopped at Albion Software's booth and bought a copy if ShipIt!, which is basically a car forwarding and switchlist generator. I'd looked at their website previously, and was very intrigued by the software that was described. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to its promises. It seems that the user has to almost become a database programmer him/herself to really use the program most efficiently. I can safely say this: it is a lot more difficult to USE the program than it should be. Two-plus years after buying Shipit!, I'm still looking for good operations software. I've investigated several different ones, and all have been found wanting. More coming |
